The summer exhibition at the Nijo-jo Castle Paintings Gallery (Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City) will be held from June 13 to August 11, 2026.
At the former Imperial Villa Nijo-jo Castle, efforts have been underway since 1972 to create reproductions of the Ninomaru Palace wall paintings (designated as Important Cultural Properties in 1982) in order to preserve these valuable works permanently. Today, almost all of the wall paintings in the Shikidai, Grand Hall, Kuro-shoin, and Shiro-shoin have been replaced with reproduced versions. The original paintings are being preserved in the Nijo-jo Castle Gallery of Wall Paintings and are made available for public viewing on a rotating basis.
This year, the wall paintings from rooms associated with Kan’ei Gyoko (Imperial Visit to Nijo Castle in 1626) are being exhibited across four seasonal exhibitions held throughout the year.
