On December 6, 2025, a special supplementary session of the Kan’ei Culture Lecture Series, titled “Briefing Session on the Reenactment Procession of the Kan’ei Gyoko,” was held at Kyō-Washin-an in Kyoto.
The event was organized by the Kan’ei Gyoko 400th Anniversary Commemoration Executive Committee and co-hosted by Living History KYOTO.
The session began with opening remarks by Kanako Hamasaki, Producer of the Kan’ei Gyoko 400th Anniversary Commemoration.
This was followed by a presentation from Tsuyoshi Nishiyama, Chief Curator of the Kyoto Culture Museum, who spoke on the historical background of the Kan’ei Gyoko, as well as the procession’s route, structure, and ceremonial costumes, drawing on analyses of early modern documents and historical maps.

Examples of ceremonial costumes were also displayed at the venue.
While listening to insights from Nobuyuki Yamamoto, President of Izutsu Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the costume production, participants were given an opportunity to reflect on and anticipate the event scheduled to take place one year later.
The session concluded with an announcement by Kazuhisa Umehara, Chair of the Executive Committee, regarding the advance entry procedures for participation in the Gyoko procession.

Following the briefing, participants set out on a guided walking tour tracing the route from Nakadachiuri Street to Horikawa Street, along which the Kan’ei Gyoko of 1626 was conducted.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who took part.
