September 6, 1626 (Kan'ei 3), at the dawn of the Edo period.
It was a moment when people truly experienced peace, and culture flourished.
Having emerged from the turmoil of the Warring States period,
feudal lords from across Japan gathered in Kyoto for a magnificent event in which the Tokugawa Shogunate,
demonstrating its prestige, hosted the Emperor over the course of five days.
Now, four hundred years later, the Kan'ei Gyoko (Imperial Visit by the Emperor) returns in the Reiwa era.
Explore a wide range of programs, including lectures and museum exhibitions,
that offer deeper insight into Kan'ei culture.
Through interviews and conversations, we explore the thoughts and aspirations of the people who are bringing the Kan’ei Gyoko 400th Anniversary Festival to life and supporting it behind the scenes.(This content is available in Japanese only.)
