On Saturday, November 21, the Kan’ei Gyoko 400th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture, “The Four Seasons in Waka Poetry,” will be held in the Former Assembly Hall of the Former Main Building of the Kyoto Prefectural Office.
During the Kan’ei Gyoko of 1626 (Kan’ei 3), a waka poetry gathering was held on the evening of the third day of Emperor Go-Mizunoo’s five-day stay at Nijo Castle. Records show that the gathering brought together the Emperor, the shogun, Imperial princes, court aristocrats, and members of the warrior class. Among those in attendance was Reizei Tamemitsu of the Reizei family, renowned for its long tradition of waka poetry.
For this commemorative lecture, Tamiko Reizei, Managing Director of the Reizeike Shiguretei Bunko Foundation, will speak on the theme “The Four Seasons in Waka Poetry.”
This is a valuable opportunity to discover the world of waka poetry that enriched the Kan’ei Gyoko four centuries ago. In the historic Former Assembly Hall of the Former Main Building of the Kyoto Prefectural Office, we invite you to enjoy the tradition of waka poetry that has been passed down through the generations together with the changing seasons.
