This year marks the 400th anniversary of the Kan’ei Gyoko (Imperial Visit to Nijo Castle in 1626). To commemorate this historic occasion, the Nishijin Textile Historical Materials Room, located on the third floor of the Nishijin Textile Center, will hold a special exhibition of works from its collection reflecting on the Kan’ei Gyoko.
The exhibition will primarily feature elegant textiles that evoke the splendor of the historic Imperial Visit. Highlights include fragments of ceremonial garments worn by court aristocrats and nobles, fragments of Noh costumes from the Edo period, and Noh costumes from the modern era.
Other exhibits include a flag bearing the Imperial chrysanthemum crest and a tsuzure-ori fukusa (tapestry-woven ceremonial cloth) depicting the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan.
