We are pleased to introduce an article by Shimpei Matsuoka, who has served as a lecturer for the Kan’ei Culture Lecture Series and other programs, published in the September–October 2026 issue of the magazine “Kanze.”
The article explores the Kan’ei Gyoko and Noh, an art form deeply connected with Kan’ei Culture, offering insight into the relationship between Noh and the culture that flourished during the Kan’ei era.
It also presents Professor Matsuoka’s perspective on the Kaiko (opening recitation) to be performed at the beginning of the Kan’ei Gyoko 400th Anniversary Commemorative Noh Performance. We hope you will take the opportunity to read it.
