The “Kan’ei Gyoko Commemorative Noh Performance,” held on Sunday, September 6, will be featured in “NOH = NOW: New Perspectives on Noh Theatre in the 21st Century,” a live-streamed program beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29.
Ryoichi Arimatsu, a Noh performer of the Takayasu School of the waki tradition (supporting-role performers), who portrayed Tokugawa Hidetada in the Kan’ei Gyoko Commemorative Noh Performance, also previously appeared in “Mizu no Wa” (Circle of Water), a work created by Professor Akihiro Yamamoto, the guest on this episode.
The program offers a refreshing perspective on Noh theatre, focusing on shinsaku Noh (newly created Noh plays), which continue to emerge in the modern era, and inviting viewers to discover the art form’s calming qualities.
We hope you will join the live stream tomorrow, Thursday, October 29, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
