Kyoto–Kan’ei: A Connected Museum Experience

2026年9月5日(土)~2026年10月18日(日)

〈Sen-Oku Hakukokan Museum〉 Special Exhibition Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of the Kan’ei Gyoko: “The Kan’ei Gyoko and the Cultural Figures of the ‘City of Flowers’”

The Sen-Oku Hakukokan Museum will present a special exhibition exploring the Kan’ei Gyoko and the Kan’ei Culture that flourished around the time of this historic event, centered on the “Nijo Castle Imperial Visit Folding Screens,” which vividly depict its magnificent procession.

A highlight of the exhibition is the network of cultural exchange that transcended social status, explored through Tofukumon-in (Tokugawa Masako), who was born a daughter of the shogun and became the consort of Emperor Go-Mizunoo. Through the world of beauty cultivated by cultural figures such as Sen Sotan, Kobori Enshu, and Nonomura Ninsei, together with objects associated with Tofukumon-in, visitors can discover the breadth and richness of Kan’ei Culture.

As we mark 400 years since the Kan’ei Gyoko, we invite you to visit the exhibition and experience the vibrant spirit of the flourishing culture of the Kan’ei era.
