The Kyogashi Exhibition was launched in 2011 and, since 2013, has invited submissions of confectionery works inspired by themes drawn from classical literature and other cultural traditions.
This year’s theme is the “Kan’ei Gyoko Picture Scroll,” with works invited in both the Design and Confectionery Creation categories. The selected works go on display today, October 1, at two venues: Yuhisai Kodokan and the Former Mitsui Family Shimogamo Villa.
Four hundred years have passed since the Kan’ei Gyoko of 1626 (Kan’ei 3).
The history and culture of four centuries ago, together with the splendor of the Imperial Visit, have been reimagined through contemporary sensibilities and expressed in individual pieces of kyogashi (traditional Kyoto confectionery).
We invite you to experience up close the scenes of the Kan’ei Gyoko embodied in these “50-gram three-dimensional creations.”
